If someone suddenly collapsed in front of you, would you know what to do?
It’s not something any of us particularly want to think about. But emergencies can happen when we least expect them — at home, while you're out with friends, at the shops or even just walking around your local community.
In a situation like that, having someone nearby who knows what to do could make a real difference.
That’s why Kennington Town Council, working with Kent Fire and Rescue Service, is offering FREE CPR and Defibrillator Training to local residents.
Following the success of previous sessions, we’re really pleased to be able to offer this opportunity again and encourage people from across our community to get involved.
🫀 You Don't Need to Be an Expert
You might hear the words CPR training and think it’s something that’s only useful for doctors, nurses or people who work in healthcare. It isn’t.
This training is designed for ordinary people, with no previous experience needed. You’ll be shown what to do and have the chance to practice the skills yourself in a relaxed and supportive environment.
The session covers CPR for adults, children and infants, as well as how to use a defibrillator.
And perhaps most importantly, it can help you feel a little less helpless if you’re ever faced with an emergency.
🚨 What If It Happened to Someone You Know?
It’s easy to think that something like this will never happen to you or someone you know.
But the person who needs help could be your mum or dad. It could be a friend, a neighbour, a colleague or someone you happen to walk past while you're out. You just never know!!
That’s why learning CPR isn't necessarily about expecting to use it. It’s about being prepared just in case.
Having the confidence to recognise an emergency, start CPR and use a defibrillator could give someone the best possible chance while professional help is on its way.
🙌 Give It a Go
You don't need to be particularly confident, and you certainly don't need to know everything before you arrive. The whole point of the session is to learn.
You'll be guided through what to do, have the opportunity to practice and be able to ask questions along the way. By the end, you'll hopefully leave feeling much more confident about what you could do if you ever found yourself in that situation.
And who knows? You might even encourage a friend or family member to come along with you.
📅 When Can I Take Part?
The next two training sessions are currently planned for:
📅 3 September 2026
📅 26 November 2026
Places are limited, so if you'd like to take part, make sure you register your interest with Kennington Town Council via the eventbrite link - https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/cpr-training-tickets-1998746865680
We'll also be sharing more information through our Facebook page and website blog, so keep an eye out for any updates or further sessions.
❤️ You Never Know When It Might Matter
Most of us will hopefully never have to use CPR.
But if the day ever comes when someone needs help, knowing what to do could be incredibly important.
For just one training session, you could learn skills that stay with you for years to come — and you could encourage someone else to learn them too.
Come along, have a go and learn something that could one day make a real difference.
One hour of your time could give you a skill for life. ❤️
